Virginia JD Obituary

Virginia Rose Huebner JD, microbiologist, lawyer, computer expert and above all, lover, explorer and conservator of our beautiful earth.

Virginia R. Huebner (Gini, June 30, 1947-July 5, 2018) was the middle child of Robert J. Huebner and Berdine Huebner, one of 9 siblings of the Huebner family of Hidden Hills Farm, Ijamsville, Maryland. She always felt that being the middle child had a large influence on her growth and personal development. Two years ago, Gini learned that she had pancreatic cancer, underwent major surgery and chemotherapy at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. Following the end of her treatment last summer, as the cancer progressed, Gini eschewed further treatment and faced her last year of life with courage and joyful appreciation of nature, shared with her siblings, many nephews and nieces and many dear lifelong friends. She is survived by sisters, Elizabeth J. Huebner-Pfeiffer, Frances Kay Huebner, Geraldine A. Wyman, Roberta Sue Creamer, Mary Louise Barnard, brother Richard Daniel Huebner, brothers and sisters by marriage and the children of all siblings. Two brothers, Robert J. Huebner and Edward Nelson Huebner, predeceased her.

Gini graduated in 1965 from St. John's High School of Frederick, and from the University of Maryland, College Park with a BS in Microbiolgy and Chemistry in 1969 and began PhD studies in Molecular Biology at Columbia University, considering following her father and a sister into the field of cancer research. While reconsidering her planned pursuit of a PhD, she worked for a time at the research laboratories of Microbiological Associates and later Flow Laboratories of Rockville, where she made some interesting scientific discoveries and learned that laboratory research was not her final calling. She then attended and graduated from Antioch School of Law in 1975, passed her Bar examination and worked briefly as a lawyer in the corporate field.

From 1983 through 1999 Virginia worked her way toward what would be her lifelong career in teaching herself and many others computer skills, as a personal computing and software training consultant at several organizations. She then used her own computer skills for more than 13 years as a PeopleSoft Systems Administrator at the Frederick County Public Schools system where she developed detailed training materials and trained the core administrative staff in all aspects of PeopleSoft, including recruiting, workforce administration, benefits, payroll and budget. She retired from FCPS in 2013 and went on to be an independent systems consultant for her own firm, VRH Consultants.

In parallel with her professional life duties, she traveled around the US on service and vacation trips and found that her greatest love was nature, its animals and plant kingdoms. She traveled to and around Africa on her own, traveled often to Central American countries, which became her special loves. She transmitted her love of the outdoors and its creatures to all family members and friends whenever the opportunity arose and cared passionately about conservation of Earth's natural beauties, resources and the health of our planet.

During this last year, when she lived in her apartment on Baker Park in Frederick, she especially loved the park, its birds, trees and waterways and shared her knowledge of the many birds with family members and friends on their frequent walks around her favorite, most accessible outdoor area. She will be greatly missed by her sisters, brother, nephews and nieces and her many close friends, nearly all of whom have visited frequently to her warm, friendly Baker Park apartment and environment.
